349-162

What an extraordinary night! I'm not much of a gambler, but I actually bet money that this would happen. I'm a bit in shock that it actually did. President-elect Obama. Wow.

We do "high dudgeon" and "smart ass" with a fair degree of competence here at jwbblog. I'm not sure that we're really up to what's called for at this moment.

BTW, did anyone else think Berke Breathed was actually going to euthanize Opus over the weekend?

More later, maybe.

Aislinn

Sorry for lack of posting. Been a little busy.

Allow me to introduce you to Aislinn Daniela Barry, who was born at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 10:03 PM, 9 lbs 3 oz. and 22 inches long. (She's gonna be a tall drink of water.) Aislinn (pronounced "ash-lin") is an irish name meaning "a dream" or "a vision"--which seems about right to me. She's a very sweet baby.

We've been at the Brigham since Saturday and, much to my relief, are finally going home tomorrow.

If you're interested, you can find a few videos at our Flickr page (pics to come):

Really?

Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio? Help me out here. Have I missed something? Is this a joke? No, really?

It was like watching Gidget address the Reichstag

Just got a haircut (as opposed to a hair cut) at Sal's Barber Shop in J.P.--which is unrelated, so far as I know, to Sal's Barber Shop on Rt. 40 in MD. (RDR: Is Sal's still there?)

It looks like Baby B will be making an appearance somewhere between this and next Friday. I'll try to check in when I can with an update.

This Matt Taibbi piece about Lady Sarah of the Caribou is pretty hilarious except the parts that are terrifying. If you vote for these clowns, you really ought to have your head examined.

Any reading suggestions? I've had a tough time finding interesting things to read of late, and am re-reading some of the early Furst books, starting with Dark Star, about Pravda correspondent and accidental NKVD agent (and jwbblog commenter) Andre Szara.

One again, I promised to blog about Mad Men and I shall have to put it off for another day. If anyone really cares, I am sorry.

UPDATE: I see, on re-reading Mondays post--such as it was--that I must have promised to blog about Mad Men in my mind. Hmmm. I may be going slowly insane.

Happy Birthday, Buzzy

Buzzy turns two today.

More tomorrow--including an update on Baby B and possibly some unoriginal musings on Lady Sarah of the Caribou.

On blogging

Repeat after me: Blogger sucks. I've been trying to publish another post all morning and it seems to appear--in various forms of completeness--and then disappear with no rhyme or reason. Argh!

Spain--that's in Europe

You've obviously not been blogging often enough when your mother-in-law complains that you haven't been blogging often enough.

In case you missed it, the new Bond trailer is here. Not bad, though--having seen "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" recently--I'm having a hard time seeing Matty Amalric as a bad guy.

Regarding Sarah Palin, this boyfriend stealing business is really the last straw. Just totally unacceptable.

Kevin Drum points out that a small upside of this AIG business is that you and I--as American taxpayers--are the principal sponsor of Manchester United. Alas, they aren't very good thus far in the Premier League season. I wonder what kind of seats that would get us at Old Trafford.

There were several other paragraphs--and a photo--in the original incarnation of this post, but Blogger keeps eating them, so I'll save them for a rainy day.
